Dissident:

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard is reluctant to fall in love again after losing her husband. Can Republican playboy Jack McIntyre break through her grief and capture her heart? Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate romance, and undying love.

Conscience:

Caroline faces the biggest challenge of her life when confronted with the cruelty and sadism of her captors at The Fed. Hope fades quickly, even as she holds onto her one last bit of sanity and her unshakable belief that her husband will rescue her. But is that faith just a mirage?

Sojourn:

Reeling from her experiences at The Fed, Caroline tries to forge ahead and create a new identity. But that’s hard to do with the ghosts of the past constantly whispering in her ear. She is determined to find the rebellion and move on with her life, but what will she find when she arrives there?

When they reached the ballroom he locked the door behind him. Jack walked over to one of the decorative side tables and produced a box wrapped with red paper.
“Merry Christmas,” he said, handing it to her.
“Why didn’t you give this to me earlier?”
“I needed us to be in private when I gave it to you. Open it.”
It had to be jewelry. “I told you not to get me anything outlandish.”
“I don’t have to listen to you. Even if we are married.”
Caroline ripped the paper away. She opened the box and was greeted with an exquisite emerald necklace. Fringe design, with each individual green stone framed by tiny sparkling diamonds. The necklace was dripping with jewels from end to end. It looked like a prop from an eighties soap opera except it was stunningly, gorgeously real. She wouldn’t even want to speculate about the cost. “Jack-”
“Do you like it?” he asked.
She was convinced he only gave her presents just to gauge her reaction. To see how long she’d gawk at them before starting to gush. Caroline wasn’t refined when it came to her spontaneous responses to him. Did she like the necklace? A rather silly question since it was one of the most amazing things she’d ever seen.
“It’s beautiful,” she whispered.
He took the box from her. “I didn’t recall seeing you with anything other than sapphires or diamonds. We’re going to have to do something about that.”
She could only imagine the media attention they’d get if she paraded around wearing a necklace that cost more than what the average household made in a year, several times over. Sometimes her husband forgot that he was running for governor, not auditioning for the cast of Falcon Crest. “It’s too much, Jack. It’s so…elaborate. I can’t wear that in public.”
He smiled. “Then don’t. Wear it just for me.”
“Just around the house? Like, when I’m watching baseball and stuff?”
He laughed. “‘And stuff’?”
Her language was less polished than usual. “I’ve had a ton to drink today. I can’t always be articulate.”
Jack pulled her to him, leaning toward her ear. “How about you wear the necklace and nothing else, and grant your husband a dance?”
Now she saw where he was going. “A nice Christmas waltz?” Caroline suggested. “Fully clothed, of course. We must always be proper.”
He tugged at her sweater. “Try again.”
His romantic and seductive gestures were sweet, but impractical. “It’s cold in here.”
“I’ll turn the heat up.”
“What about you?”
“We don’t need to worry about me.”
Caroline sighed. “I meant your clothes.”
He unbuttoned her pants. “They’re staying on.”
That seemed unfair. “I’m not sure I like this power differential.”
Jack ran a finger under the waistband of her panties. “I think you do,” he whispered.
She shivered when he pulled her pants and underwear down. “Will there be music? Or are you going to parade my naked self around the ballroom in silence?”
“I picked a special song for the two of us.” He grinned. “And you won’t be naked. You’ll be wearing the necklace.”
She ran her hands down the front of his shirt, imagining how it would feel for her bare chest to rub against it while they danced. “You will undress at some point, right?”
He kissed her again. “Upstairs. Let me do this,” he said softly, stripping off the rest of her clothes, even her bra and panties. He laughed when he reached her socks. “Are those dinosaurs?”
Caroline liked wearing fun socks. She didn’t care if they were juvenile. She’d get away with it for as long as she could. “They’re wearing little Santa hats.”
Though he’d started to yank them down, he hastily pulled them back up to below her knees. “These can stay on. But only because they make you look so damn adorable.”
She tried not to think of what she’d look like wearing nothing but whimsical dinosaur knee socks and an emerald necklace, but the expression on his face indicated that Jack didn’t particularly care. He kissed her deeply before retrieving the necklace. He took his time placing it around her neck, then stepped back to look at her. It took all her effort not to blush. She hadn’t anticipated the night ending this way.
Jack tipped her chin up. “You look fucking marvelous.”
Her face had to be as red as a cherry. “Even with the socks?”
He brushed a stray hair out of her face. “There are few things sexier than a woman wearing an emerald necklace and dinosaur socks…and nothing else.”

Review: Becoming Calder by Mia Sheridan via Goodreads

Becoming CalderBecoming Calder by Mia Sheridan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5+ Morning Glory and Butterscotch Stars!

This is the second book I've read by Mia Sheridan. After Archer's Voice, I was so excited to read another book from her, to dive in her amazing writing skills. Because there is something in her writing that makes you feel every emotion deeply in your soul. Every word creates a tingly sensation on your skin. The story and the characters put a smile on your face. Also, she makes you feel pain, sorrow, longing.

Becoming Calder is the first book of Aquarius(my sign) Duo and it has a lot of connection with the sign. This book is literally a Young Adult and Contemporary Romance book. But this book has more than that. I wouldn't categorize it just with those two. Because Becoming Calder "feels" like a magical, mythical, historical, even a little bit dystopian, young adult and contemporary romance. So...To categorize this book just with one category wouldn't do the justice.

Let me use the blurb to explain what Becoming Calder is about:

There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.

There is a cult named as Acadia with a leader named as Hector. They live the simplest way possible, are obedient to the Hector and what the Gods' rules. Living isolated from the real world, the modern world, they don't have anything for themselves. Because being selfish is sin and not allowed.
And the most important thing is they don't ask questions, they just believe.

description

In this place, there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

Calder Raynes...We met him when he was only ten years old sweet boy. He is a Water Bearer. With each passing days, he became a young man. He is intelligent, sweet, handsome, simply beautiful in and out. He has the simplest but the rarest attribute in him. He is GOOD.

I watched the way he was smiling and laughing and the way other people, whenever they were around him, seemed to smile, too. It was like he just exuded joy and goodness.
He was beautiful...

description

In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Eden...The Blessed One...The one who carries the responsibility of big destiny. The one who has to be selfless and obedient to take everyone to the Elysium. But she is too strong to be ruled and too delicate to be selfless. All those years, she wanted one thing and she is too passionate to give up on that dream.

As I stared at her, a strange feeling gripped me, almost lie a sort of déja vu, as if this moment was a memory- not one that was in my mind, but in my blood, in the very fiber of who I was.

description

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places . . . From the beginning of time to the end of the world.

Where they lived there wasn't a place for their love. That was selfish, impossible. Everything was against them. The destiny was against them. But the love found a way to grow in them. Slowly, surely and irrecoverably.

"His smile lit up my world, even from afar. he was perfect. And I loved him. I loved him desperately."
"I will protect your sweet and hopeful heart. I vow to shield you from any ugliness in this world and always be your shelter in the storm."

description

This book was an epic read for me that I'll never forget. Even while writing this review I already want to re-read Becoming Calder. Their pure love and innocent passion were captivating, steamy and sweet.
After Archer's Voice, I thought I knew what I should expect from this book but Mia Sheridan totally surprised me. I'm spellbound by the book, the storyline, how different this book than Archer.
Although I know it's wrong to compare books, I couldn't help but ask myself if I loved Archer or Calder more. I can say both are the same but then...I may even love Calder more.

If you want to witness how love grows in two people's heart, how they can find a sacred place to worship that love day by day...Read this book. This book reminds us how the real love should be and how strong it is.

I truly, absolutely loved everything about this book!!

Review: Quintessentially Q by Pepper Winters via Goodreads

Quintessentially Q (Monsters in the Dark, #2)Quintessentially Q by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Stars!

I should write reviews just after I've finished the books. Because when the time passes, I don't feel like writing it. Unfortunately, this review is one of them. Days passed by before I could write this review so now, I'm feeling a little out my element here. I promise to not make it long!

The story of Tess and Q continues with the second book of the Monsters in the Dark Series. Their story was hard from the beginning. They didn't start their relationship in a common way. But they've been through so much in the first book. At least, that was what I thought.

Q wasn't just my master in the bedroom. He was the master of my heart.

In the second book, everything was more. It was darker, more intense, deeper, crueler, more on the edge. I loved the first book so much but in this book, I felt the connection between Tess and Q more. I also felt more connected with them. And most of all, everything that happened to Tess in the first book looked like those were just teaser yet second book is the full movie.

You stole my loneliness. I may have given you wings but you've become my gravity. I'll never be free of your force.

description

While reading I couldn't help but compare the first book and second with each others. And Quintessentially Q made me realize that surviving through physical pain was something but surviving through mind-games...It wasn't really survival, at all.

You think you're free when you're not restrained? You don't know me at all, esclave. You'll never be free of me. I'll never be free of you. It's fate who decides and fate gave us each other.

This book started pretty positive and hopeful. Everything was good as much as it could be with Tess and Q. They were happy in their own way, had each other.
Then, in the blink of an eye, everything turned to disaster, chaos with one mistake, one stupidity.
I was so angry at Tess about it but then, I was so sad for her. The things she'd been through in this book was just so much. I felt her pain deep in my bones.

Her cage wasn't me anymore. It was them.

description

But...I think everything happens for a reason. Because Tess' demons forced Q to face his own demons, forced him to do sacrifices and made him find real Quincy inside himself.
Their love, relationship turned into something more after everything. They fought against the world, against each others, against themselves and against their love.

Q was all my nightmares, fantasies and needs rolled into one bestial package. He was my drug of choice and I'd been craving him.

description

In short, I really love this book more. Generally, in the series, I love first books more because all the firsts and the introductions. But in Pepper Winters' books, I realize I love the stories with each book just more and more.

Until we learned to read and believe in each other, we were doomed.

So...If you haven't read this serial before, you should read it without waiting longer or if you've read only the first book and couldn't find the push to continue you're missing a good story here. You'll love this book! ;)

Review: Fuck Buddy by Scott Hildreth via Goodreads

Fuck BuddyFuck Buddy by Scott Hildreth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 -Good to go- Stars

BR with precious Shhluts DS, Lizzie and Tanaka

Fuck Buddy was a gift to me from Shh, the awesome Goodreads group. I'm so glad I chose this book. It was awesome!

Fuck Buddy is the second book I've read by Scott Hildreth. I knew this book would be good without any doubt. The name of the book, the blurb...I thought it would be a light and hot read. I expected it. It was hot for sure but it was absolutely not light.

Reading two books by Mr. Hildreth, I can easily say his books are full of wisdom. You can think every book out there has a secret meaning for careful eyes, I agree but, Scott Hildreth's books are like a life manual. I wanted to highlight at least half of the book.
He makes you question your life, your beliefs, your dreams. He makes you see the life from a different perspective.
He doesn't force any idea on you, doesn't try to change your mind but he force you to think. He gives you food for thought and a lot of opportunity in life when you're thinking there is only one certain way to live it.

I'm not interested in having my life or the events in my life dependent on a clock. Go to work at this time, come home at that time, it's time to eat, it's time to get up, I have to run to a meeting at 11:45. I don't know how people do it.

Luke doesn't live his life due to anyone or any rules. He lives his life the way he wants it. He is kinda introvert, kinda old-fashioned and kinda strong enough to rule his world. He is a free spirit and I wouldn't want him any other way.

He liked what he liked and he believed what he believed. It was just who Luke was.

description

Liv is a young woman who wants "great sex and a wedding ring" in her relationships. But she isn't lucky in that department. Maybe because she trusts online-date sites for her relationships or maybe because she is in love with her best friend, Luke, since ages.
Finally, when she gave up on going dates with some strangers from online, she decides to jump another level in their friendships with Luke and wants to include sex in it.

Luke. My best friend. My best friend with added benefits.

It looks so easy at first. Two people who are best friends since ages and also love each other become fuck buddies...But it's not that simple. When some secrets from past revealed, it might be hard to accept.

Liv's love towards Luke was good and sweet but she made me so angry sometimes. And in those times, Chloe showed up in the picture, thankfully.
I loved Chloe so much as a side character. She was fun, a little slutty (in a good way) and good at giving pieces of advice.

"You're done thinking. Done. I'm doing the thinking for you from here on out."

On the other side, Luke's love was great; I thought he loved more intense than Liv. Maybe because he was more like a nature guy, he acted like that. He gave all he has, no holding back, just like nature does.
He was funny, caring and kinky. All the good things a lover should be.

"The girl you said was a slut? The one you called the other day?"
"Uh huh."
"And she told you that you were a submissive?"
"No. I took a test."
"At the submissive school?"

Because I can live without sex. But I can't live without you.

description

Seeing her cry created a pain within me that I was afraid time may never heal.

In this book I felt so many things. It was funny, sad, hot, sweet and painful. I'm still feeling the heavy feeling of the secret in the book. I loved how Scott pictured that human beings are controlled by emotions, other's actions. I loved how he showed us a butterfly can be so strong.

description

I recommend this book to everyone. This is not just a simple erotica, this is not all about sex. This is about being human, loving someone, accepting them with their scars, their demons and their doubts.
Just a piece of advice; while reading this book read it carefully. I'm sure you'll find a lot of questions and a lot of answers about your life.

As a final note: I want to thank to Scott Hildreth with all my heart. I'm totally in love with this book. THANK YOU!
